Luckily, I've got an amazing solution- one that quickly acts to lessen the burn, and halt the damage to your skin- preventing that awful peeling, etc.!
Some of you out there may swear by simply using aloe- (which is also a very effective natural product), but many Aloe "gels" on the market are not pure, and contain added chemicals, etc. Don't get me wrong, Aloe is excellent for helping to soothe the discomfort of sunburns, and to prevent peeling, but by itself may not be as effective in restoring the damaged skin.
This spray takes a couple minutes, (if that!), to throw together, is ALL NATURAL, and not only quickly heals the damaged skin, but cools the burn, prevents blistering and peeling, and helps to diminish the "itchiness" as well!
Is this strictly for sunburns? No! In fact, this particular spray is also excellent for spraying on bee/wasp stings, insect bites, and various burns- from steam, direct heat, etc. As a side note, my son was just stung by a hornet the other day, (which had swelled up immediately), and was barely detectable within 1 hour of spraying this solution!
The effective ingredients are:
Peppermint essential oil, Lavender essential oil, Copaiba essential oil, Witch Hazel, Coconut oil, and Vitamin E oil.
Lavender Oil is one of the most highly regarded, and widely used essential oil. It has incredible properties for overall skin health- specifically; the healing of burns, abrasions, infections, etc. Lavender actually lessens blistering and scarring, has anti-bacterial properties to fight infection, reduces inflammation/ swelling, and it's incredible calming scent also aids by bringing about feelings of relaxation and comfort.
Peppermint Oil has an immediate cooling/ numbing effect. It's known for it's effectiveness for fevers, which makes it a vital oil for aiding in helping to make you more comfortable when suffering from burns.
Copaiba Oil is considered the "magnifier oil". It comes from a tree commonly found in the Amazon forest. This oil also contains the same properties: anti-bacterial, astringent, anti-inflammatory, moisturizes, reduces pain, as well as prevents cancer. But what makes it unique, is that it magnifies/enhances the power(s) of other essential oils you combine it with! ****Contains the highest levels of beta-caryophyllene in the world, (contains 50%!)
Witch Hazel, (also known as the plant "Winterbloom"), is such a versatile product for skin care. Found in most any pharmacy, and very inexpensive, this ingredient contains a powerhouse of antioxidants and astringent properties- which are key for prevention of skin cancer, killing bacteria, and speeding up the healing process.
Coconut Oil acts as a natural barrier for protecting damaged skin from further damage and/or infection. It also has a cooling effect, anti-bacterial properties to fight infection, and moisturizes.
Vitamin E oil is essential for healing damaged skin, rejuvenating skin, and preventing scars, etc.
1- 2 oz. Plastic or glass spray bottle (compliable for essential oil use- clear plastic/ glass is not recommended)
7 drops of Peppermint EO
5 drops of Lavender EO
4 drops of Copaiba EO
2 t. Coconut Oil (Fractionated/ liquid) ***You can also sub for 1 t. pure Aloe gel as well
1 t. Vitamin E Oil
Using a 2 oz. spray bottle, remove the spray nozzle. Add the essential oils first, then add the coconut and vitamin E oil, and fill the bottle the rest of the way with Witch Hazel, (leaving some space at the top.)
Apply the spray nozzle snuggly, shake well, and you are ready to use!
***Make sure to always shake well prior to spraying- as the oils may separate. Depending on the severity of the burn, you may spray- covering the area completely up to 5 or 6 times a day. This recipe can easily be doubled for use in a 4oz. spray bottle.
***See pic below for reference of effectiveness. (This was my daughter Rianna's shoulders/back after getting a sunburn at the beach recently. As you can see, it really works!)
